The Minister’s Witch

This is a story I wrote one night when i was kinda depressed. I couldn’t sleep so I wrote. It may be desturbing to some but it’s one of my favorites, enjoy at your own risk.

The Minister’s Witch

The town was Nowheresville, South Carolina. The population was a measly two hundred forty two. It was a small country town in the middle of the state. She was the second most important person in the town. She was the minister’s wife. She went to church every Sunday but she despised it. She threw no parties, no get-togethers, no socials. In fact the only people that have been in their house were her, her husband, and her lover.

“Are you sure this is OK, Tracy?”

“Yes, Bruce, I even told him about us last night.” She turned over in the bed to face him. He looked positively shocked. “Don’t worry. He knows I don’t love him. As long as i keep up my appearances to the church.”

The door slammed downstairs and Bruce jumped. “Are you sure it’s OK?”

“Yes hun, let’s cuddle.” She said as she pull the covers over their heads.

Julius was downstairs. He put his keys on the table by the door and went to find his wife. The first place based on the time of day and his religious beliefs should have been the kitchen. He walked into an empty room.

Then he thought about his wife. She’s probably playing with all the toys she keeps in her room. That’s where he headed next. When he opened the door two heads popped up from under the covers one shocked the other calm and smiling. Julius turned on his heals and left with one simple sentence “I’ll leave you two alone then.”

He walked up the hall to his room pulling a bible off the shelf of bibles on the way. He fell asleep while writing his next sermon.

Down the hall Tracy could tell that her lover was out of the mood. He sat up on the bed and couldn’t not ask it. “So why did you marry him?”

“My dad wants the church to rule this town in a couple of years.”

“Oh, I see. And since the men in your family have been the mayors for the past 100 years…”

“Exactly. This city is run as a monarchy. When my father dies my husband will become mayor.”

“And the citizens allow this?”

“Of course. They are the ones that keep putting my family into office. That’s why Julius took my last name instead of the other way around. Now if you will excuse me I must take a shower”

As soon as she left the room, he got nosy. He wanted to know more about her. Why does she not care about being married to someone she doesn’t love? Why does she only seem happy in bed or at night? Why does she seem to despise every Sunday?

He opened every drawer and door he could find. When he got to the last drawer he knew there were at least a couple of things in there. It was the unmentionables drawer. When he opened the drawer his eyes widened. Not because of what he expected but because of what he didn’t.

There were 3 hand written books. One of them looked like a diary. He paged though it. Just as he thought a diary. He got interested and started reading. She really hates her husband. This is amazing. She wants to kill him. He was amazed that for all the hatred she had for him. She would never harm a hair on his head.

The second book was a little more cryptic. He had to spend a little more time on this one. It was written in blue pen with bible verses, Quotes from people, and her interpretation. He was perplexed. It mentioned over and over again a Goddess. Bruce was confused.

He moved onto the 3rd book. It was a huge book almost like an unabridged dictionary. It had a pretty gold embossing that read ‘To be passed down through all the women in the family. Please add more.’

He was about to open it when the door opened. “I see you’ve found my book of shadows”

“What?”

“Take a look.”

He opened it up and flipped a few pages. His eyes glazed over. “You’re a w–”

“A Witch. Yes.”

He dropped the big black book and out of the room down the hall, stairs and straight out the door.

“I hope you realized who you told that to.” The minister was back in her doorway.

“Yes his sister is the biggest gossip in town. You won’t have any power come tomorrow morning. They won’t like that you are married to a witch.”

Julius burst out laughing. “You little fool have you been listing to my sermons?”

Her aura changed. For the first time in many years. “It’s 2006 I’m sure there’s nothing I need to fear.” She said that more to herself then to her husband.

Julius came over slowly and slapped her. “You’ve been planning this you little bitch. You don’t like the idea of the church taking over your family’s town.”

There was a banging on the front door. Julius went to answer it. He opened it to find many men crowded around his door and beyond. In fact it looked like every man in town was here… Except the Mayor. “How may I help you?”

“Lee Ann has been telling us all that your wife, the Mayor’s daughter, is a witch.”

He put on his best surprised look. “I do not know. To think that she has been following the devil. How horrid.” He turned upstairs and yelled for her.

She came down carrying her big black book. As soon as she saw the hundred some men they saw her. There was a scream. “She ever carries her spell book! Get her!”

The next thing she knew was a fight, her against all the guys with her husband watching. She was bound and taken to the center of town.

She heard other screams “Get anyone tainted by her blood! Take down the whole family!”

Before she knew it it was her family’s reunion in the center of town. Even her father was there. “Honey, why did you tell him? I wanted this town taken over peacefully.”

“I didn’t want the church to take of this town at all. I thought the people would follow me.”

Just then Julius gave the command. “Tie them up.” The family was rushed by the people and tied to stakes. Julius walked up to the impromptu stage. She yelled at him though the cheers “Let my family go! I’m the only one you want.”

He walked up to her for she could be reached from the stage. “This city will be mine.” He kissed her on the cheek. Then he turned to the crowd. “This city has been run by what the bible tells us are devil worshipers. We must bring this city to heaven. Please let me be your leader.” Cheers erupted from the crowd. Julius was handed a torch and he threw it at his wife’s feet.

That night the fires in the central square of the city burned red… not orange.
