Vote for Delegates!

HELLO ILLINOIS!

Elections don’t do well for ease of use. We all know this. However, this primary is going to be incredibly difficult. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t vote. Just that you need to be careful. Here’s the issue: The ballot is going to be set up so the first part of the ballot is the presidential nominees. The second part of the ballot is going to be big local elections, like Secretary of State (it’s only an example, he actually isn’t up for reelection). Also anything inside your township/neighborhood will be in this section. The third part of the ballot will be DELEGATES. The fourth part is like any other election, judges.

Yes, Illinois you must vote for specific delegates. I heard this earlier today on Chicago Public Radio. However, they didn’t give me as many details as I would have liked. So I had to research. I was unable to obtain a specific ballot for Oak Park. So I could not see who the delegates where, however, I found another Illinois ballot from Whiteside County Sixteenth Congressional District. Here are their delegates then I’ll explain the system.

  • JACK D. FRANKS (CLINTON)
  • MARTHA P. LOGEMANN (CLINTON)
  • VICTORY BELL (CLINTON)
  • BARBARA A. GIOLITTO (CLINTON)
  • ELEANOR “BOBBIE” COLBERT (OBAMA)
  • CHARLES E. JEFFERSON (OBAMA)
  • SUNIL PURI (OBAMA)
  • MARY TUITE (OBAMA)
  • JERROLD BEGER (EDWARDS)
  • THOMAS W. DALSANTO (EDWARDS)
  • JANET S. BEGER (EDWARDS)
  • PATRICIA BLACK (EDWARDS)
  • JEFF DORAN (RICHARDSON)
  • ELIZABETH PUCHMELTER (RICHARDSON)

So the good news is who they support is behind them in parenthesis. It will tell you how many to choose. That will make thins significantly easier. Here’s another issue with this. Those of you who take a Republican ballot have to be VERY CAREFUL. The vote for presidential candidate at the top does not really count, it’s only for looks. What matters is the delegates. You MUST vote for the delegates you want.

The Democrat system is much more complicated. You will be voting for delegates just as in the Republican system. But you cannot forget about the top because if someone doesn’t get 15% of the popular vote their delegates must choose someone else (possibly someone you don’t like). Make sure your ticket shows the candidate you support in both places.

I ‘ll put more about this when I understand it a little better.

EDIT: Since I’ve written this, I’ve learned that half of the delegates up for grab will be based on the delegate vote (part 3 of the ballot) and half of the delegates will be based on the popular vote for the candidate (part 1 of the ballot) so both parts are important!

Don’t forget to vote on the 5th!

Oh! Also, tonight January 28th @ 8pm CST is Bush’s State of the Union. The last one.
