So, I’ve decided to boycott the rest of the political discussion season. I will still follow it as I do, but I will from here until after election day keep my opinions to myself, and I ask that all of you that I know please respect my decision and do the same. I have told a couple of people of my plans and they all ask the same question: Why?

Well it comes down to that I do not agree with Obama or McCain entirely about how this country should proceed. I’ve decided that the Libertarian party is the one best represents what I believe. That is: Socially Liberal, Economically Conservative. Most Libertarians will vote either Republican or Democratic depending on if they feel Social issues are more important or Economic issues are more important at any given election.

Now, in the last month or so during my political discussions I have a tendency to point out what I like or don’t like about both candidates. However, the moment I point out something I don’t like about Obama to an Obama supporter I’m yelled at: “How could you not support him? He will save our country! You must be a racist!” Or something of that sort, either way, the result is anger. Honestly, it’s the same on the other side. Although, it more often goes like this when I talk to a McCain supporter about things I like about Obama: “How could you support him? He will destroy this country! You must be a socialist.” Both of these results are completely detestable, they are also the worst case scenario. They are also the most frequent results of my political discussions of my last month. And every day this goes on that result is more and more frequent.

From here until election day, I will be keeping my political thoughts to myself. Only because I am attacked when I speak my mind, from both sides. It makes me sad and tells me that now this country is going in the wrong direction: “If you don’t agree with me, you are a bad person because ___________.”

I mourn logical and calm political discussions. They are clearly dead.
