So, what I saw… was HOPEFULLY the worst game of Jay Cutler’s Bears career. That’s all I feel I need to say… Four Interceptions, a new career high for him…

The fact that our first points were scored on a SAFTEY… Just kinda feeds into the idea that the Bears offence sucks and the defence rocks…. Well, I guess that’s what I’m getting into

Anyway, this was the first game I’ve watched to watch and enjoy. And Carie and her room mate Kristen helped me thought the process… Although, I realize today, foot ball is going to be “state dependant” memory.

So as the Cubs season slides to an end… Football is starting up….

GO 2010 CUBS!

1. The away record.

This has become more important because AL won the All-Star game so we will not have home field advantage for the World Series, however, for that to matter we have to get there. We have two big series’ @ MIL that will become important one of which is the last 3 games of our season. That away record needs to improve.

2. Fukudome.

I’m a little sad about Fukudome. He is not hitting as well as he has been in the past. He is not a home run hitter by any means, but he’s not even getting on base much anymore. He used to be patient and take alot of walks, but he hasn’t been lately. He needs to get those kinks worked out.

3. Marmol.

There is no getting to the World Series without the Marmol of old. He was a great pitcher and pitched strikeout after strikeout. He’s been having a lot of trouble as of late. Last Saturday he gave up a 5 run lead. He’s been handing out walks and hitting hitters with the balls. He did well in the All-Star Game. But can that continue?

4. Health.

With Soriano coming back soon, we are almost back up to full strength. And like any team, we are far better at full strength. We have to keep an eye on our heath. There was a rough patch recently where we had a couple of people out of service. We need to stay on top of the heath situation, this is possibly one of our strongest weaknesses. When we go down, we seem to go down fast.

5. The First Ten Games.

The first ten games coming out of this All-Star break could be make or break for Morale. Many teams give a good example what they are going to do in the first ten games of the Second Half. Let’s just take it one game at a time though… and this comes to my last one #6.

6. Relax

This team, although they are professionals, when they get agitated or frustrated they play poorly. Just as I think anyone would.

As I type this the game CHC @ HOU was resolved. The Houston Astros beat the Cubs 2-1. From here, we watch and root for the Cubs. At least I do! GO CUBS!

So the Cubs do not get home field advantage for the World Series. All this means, we gotta win off our own turf. Job for the second half: get some wins on the road. Improve that away record.

Now: on to my real beef about the all star game this year. It was more about the Yankees and Yankee Stadium then the PLAYERS. This made me quite angry. I know It’s Yankee Stadium’s last year. I know there’s alot of history there. But the new one is EXACTLY like the old one, except bigger. I don’t understand how Fox made the decision to cover this like they did. They should have spent more time on the All-Stars. And they seemed to favor the American League in every way! *sigh* Oh well. /rant over

This is quite a milestone. It’s always good to get over 500, but to be 20 games above so early. 1906 was the last time it happened this early in the year. We still have the best record in baseball Woot Woot!

Our record stands at 45 Wins, 25 Losses, a Percent of .643.

Also, I didn’t blog about this but Soriano is on the DL (Disabled List). He broke a bone in his hand getting hit by a pitch… If you would like to see here here is the video (It forces you to watch a quick ad). It looks as painful as it ends up being, although we did win that game.

We’ve been doing ok without him, we’ve got goodness up and down our line up =)  Although, everyone does miss him greatly.

It was a rough game at the beginning but we had good seats: here was our view of the infield:

We got a good look at Fukudome in the out field as well Things were going poorly but we got six runs in one inning at the end, and took the lead in the 7th and our lead held up!

Yesterday’s I did not see in it’s entirty, but I heard today that Ryan Theriot (our short stop) made a pretty bad error. I have no idea what it was but oh well.

Today, It was Soriano. He miss a rather routine catch out in Left Field (his neck of the woods). He was not charged with the error, even though I would have charged him with one. That was a bad scoring call in my opinion. He’s a great hitter but as a fielder. Oh my god, I wanna strangle him. So yeah. *sigh*

I’m getting a little frustrated with a couple of the Cubs’ Players. But I’m always happy with the team as a whole, let’s see if we can stop all these little errors.

The good news is St. Louis lost today so we are still in a ‘virtual tie’ for 1st place in the division. Here are the numbers.

Team: Wins-Losses & Percent Wins to losses.

Chicago Cubs 29-21 .580

St. Louis Cardinals 30-22 .577

(This is a “virtual tie” because they have one more win and one more loss. They just have played two games more then we did. The percentages only work out to different numbers because of the win/loss numbers)

However, we no longer are tied for the best record in baseball. Arizona holds that down pretty good now.

Arizona Diamondbacks 30-20 .600 (I actually just looked it up and The Tampa Bay Devil Rays also have the same record… They are now tied for the best record in baseball)
